I started drinking coffee
This is the end ... my friend.
I am flipping out in front of my computer.
my eyes can't stop winking for no reason.
sorry for the delay
So I haven't blogged for a few weeks.
How sad. I am sorry. Get over it.
I was busy and it's hard fo me to post from my new job 'cause it 's a big open space full of geeks.
Yeah ! I have new job ! with a lof of geeks around me (does not change me much ...)
I am still waiting to move in my appartment which is almost ready (one or 2 weeks).
What made me want to post again ?
Well ... some of you (the cinephiles) may have noticed the Cannes festival palmares. How M. Moore won the palme d'or and, bla bla. Hard core critics says that the thai movie "Tropical malady" from that stranged named director Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL should have won.
Yesterday, while watching random channels before falling asleep, I saw the best sex scene ever filmed on TV5. This scene was actually from "Blissfully yours", the previous movie from the Thai director. I ended watched the whole movie.
Thank you,Apichatpong, for making me love movies again.
Voila

Be scared Men : You are no longer needed
Check out this amazing news !
It speaks by itself (if a webpage could speak) ...
The Gmail era has started

Voila. Now you can wait until my 1 Go mail box is filled with spam ...
Sugar Cannes
Check out the Cannes Film Festival website. The selection has been officially announced and this year looks like a good crop. I always wonder which will we most remember in one year. There are a lot of Festival favorites and also some more underground features. I also expect a lot of stars on the croisette.
It reminds me a few years back when I was going to Cannes to my grand-parents apartment during the festival. The crowd was awful but there was a real feeling of Hollywood for 2 weeks.
Snoop Blindy Blog
I like to mention other blogs when they are fun, original and/or useful.
the following one, Blindfold Blog, is really coool (so cool that it deserves 3 'o').
I also hope it will open your eyes ....
Walmart Nation
For those who want to know more about the power of Walmart and its influence on the US society (and beyond) , check out this nice blog "Always Low Prices--Always.".
I like the disclaimer on the bottom left of the site :
"No author owns shares of WM directly or works for WM.
The opinions of ALP contributors are their own.
In fact, most of us don't even shop at WM."
The "creme de la creme" of the web
Check out The Webby Awards: 2004 Nominees. You can see which sites are the main force of the web and also all the little ones that makes the web so fun.
(Please don't ask where deepseaangler is)
I Hate Work
It's official : I hate work !
A british fun fair had the idea of putting on a website where they will encourage people to leave their work and go have fun in their park while their children are in school.
I had to mention this site even if it has stirred controversy in the UK (from all the employing companies, of course).

Large and In Charge
I just found
this picture amazing :
No, it's not the most tiny cell phone in the hands of a normal man but the largest man alive with his normal cell phone....
The Rebate World
If you've been in the US and tried to buy a consumer product you've certainly been introduced to the world of rebates.
You mail something to the company you brought the product from and after 3 months the company is supposed to send you a check with the value of the rebate.
Let's be clear : Rebates are the most vicious idea marketing people have come up with to make consumers think they buy things cheaper.
Here's a website where the creator has listed everything you can have free if you mail the rebate. Sometimes the value of the rebate is the price of the item ....
I especially like how he presents it : "The best things in life are free after 6 to 8 weeks"
DVDmania
Here's an article from the NYtimes about the new movie industry economic model which includes DVDs.
Last week end, I went to see the rerealease of "Metropolis", fritz Lang's masterpiece. Basically the remastered edition release in theatres was just a commercial for the DVD ...
It's interesting to see that some movies and TV series became famous when they bacame available in DVD. The best example, of course, is "Office Space" which is now a cult classic.
Well, I've been living this DVD craze for quite a while now and I have to find a way to quit ;)
'Toothing' : Hi-Tech Sex with Strangers
I've already mentioned the influence of hi-tech on people sex life.
Here's an other example.
It also shows that British people really get bored on public transportations ....

Anatomy of a waitress' smile
Since I came back from the US, I've been amazed by the waitresses in Paris, their lack of smiling and awareness. It is in part due to an automatic tipping system and also to the genuine Parisian behavior.
I would like to give an award for the worse waitress to the girl at "Le reconfort", rue du Poitou, in Paris. I am sure she is a lovely woman inside but she surely does not show it at work. She brings you a bottle of wine and does not pour any in your glass , makes fun at you for sharing a desert or an appetizer .... This is based on more than one experience.
Besides that, the restaurant is really good and worth going.
About Open Access News and the Open Access movement
I just wanted to post something about this site I find really important
Open Access News . What is The open access movement (in their world) :
"Putting peer-reviewed scientific and scholarly literature on the internet. Making it available free of charge and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. Removing the barriers to serious research."
Everybody writes about free software and free music but this movement deserves a shot too.
Check the editor's website. Peter Suber is a Professor, PhD in philosophy and an ex professional comedian !
Visualizing the News
If you read my blog, You know I like Google. I browse the google news everyday.
Here's a good way to visualize the news.
This visualization can also be used to display all kind of information and has been used for quite a while.
I think the Google news is a nice application of this technique.
